Apparently Major League Baseball is talking about radical realignment. Granted its only in a committee and not much will ever come of it because the plans seems somewhat crazy.
In theory it would be great for the game to have more parity. But, then again, communism sounds great in theory. It hasn't worked so well in practice. Sorry Cuba.

Floating realignment, not sure they could come up with a system that makes any sense. What improvements could they really make?
ReplyDeleteHorrible idea. Realignment is one thing but constant variations? Forget about it. The problem with realignment in general is that certain rivalries develop and are a huge part of the game. I can't believe that a few suggestions get floated around that actually move the Yanks and Red Sox to different divisions.
ReplyDeleteBesides rivalries, isn't it terrible to punish other teams by putting the big media market hound dogs in their divisions, further lessening their chances of making the playoffs? My only suggestions would be to move the Brewers back to the AL and re-balance the schedule, make each team play each other 11 times and the four teams in their divisions an extra two times each. Last year the Red Sox played the Orioles 18 times, but the Twins only 6. I don't think that is fair for the wild card race.
